Colleen stood alone in the front pew, holding tissues.
After the ‘mishap’ after the funeral, after the lawsuit, there was a check. “To fulfill our obligations,” The Company said.
Colleen shared the money with the children. Her son paid off student loans and bought a brand-new pickup. Her daughter planned the lavish wedding she’d always wanted. Six bridesmaids, designer gown, a jillion flowers, sit-down dinner, live band. Now the bridegroom and six tuxedoed friends waited.
Colleen’s were not tears of joy. The Company could never fulfill this moment, as her daughter marched down the aisle on the arm of her brother.
I like this story, it says a lot from what it doesn’t say, but I think some of the word choices could have been more alive, more descriptive
Yes, there are some things money can’t buy for you. A good story.
Love this story. So much and a powerful last line. Very sad.
