Unintended Witness

Unintended Witness

By Kent V Anderson

It’s Saturday morning and I’m in a toilet stall at our local pancake restaurant.

I’m afraid to leave. That’s because I’m a man, and I heard some women enter the restroom right after I entered this stall. Evidently I accidentally walked into the ladies room.

I overhear several of them discussing things that men never hear. Embarrassing things, I’m afraid.

I can’t believe it! Now I hear my wife, Sara, joining the conversation.

She says, “Frankly, I no longer enjoy making love. I find it quite boring.”

I sit motionless.

Then she adds, “It’s even worse when it’s with my husband.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Even though I like this flash story version, I am hopeful that the musical version will turn out as well.

Time to get up and apologize profusely as you leave. Let her wonder if you heard.

For Sara’s sake, I hope her lover wasn’t in one of the other stalls.
