Until

By John Peter Kay

She was sat at the table when he came in.

“Is it I have nothing to say, or is it writer’s block, or that I dare not write about the only issues that mean anything to me?

“Which are?”

She smiled. “Afternoon naps and Mercano.”

“Like Chekov said, ‘don’t stop till your fingers break’.”

She lit her rolly, the flame briefly, beautifully blue, then gone like a life cut short; like an idea without the means of recording it.

“Need anything from the shop?”

“Just you come back safely.”

She picked up the pen, put her head down, and began writing.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Nice John, love that line “like an idea without a means to record it”
