By Mark Roman

Matt, recently deceased, barged his way through the throng of other newly dead people towards the noticeboard that would reveal his next life. He could barely contain his excitement as he reflected on the upwardly mobile trajectory his past lives had taken. From downtrodden slave in Roman times, to Groom of the King’s Stool in the Middle Ages, to a light-fingered pickpocket in Victorian London, and then, most recently, a twenty-first-century politician.

Higher and higher each time. He grinned at the prospect of what awaited him.

Finding his name on the noticeboard, he checked for his upgrade.

“Parasitic worm,” it read.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Funny. We’ll have a lot of worms based on the political climate.

(I did two laughing emojis in my last comment but it seems to have turned them into question marks! Sorry about that. Loved the story)
