The invigilators disperse the exams as students enter the auditorium. His first time, as it is for the others—to cheat. Green and pink color-coded packages lie face down upon staggered tables. His chest constricts. Two versions! His source never mentioned the possibility of a second version, only the duplicate of last year’s final.
James laces into the package to find, folded in the sleeve of his binder, an identical match to the exam. A subtle scan of the other students reveals a division of emotions laminated across their faces.
Closing his binder, he pushes it aside and begins the exam.
