Window opened. I peer inside. Behind the screen you hide, being innocuous. Like you usually were.

It’s been a while. Our conversations. Misunderstandings. Silence. Reconciliations. More misunderstandings. Now the silence has a continuing presence.

How have you been? Have you written much since we last conversed?

I miss you. Miss your captivating style, refined language. It spoke in words I have yet to discover. Strong nouns and verbs, your signature style.

Another search. You are in a corner, tucked in the shadow.

I click on ‘exit.’ Computer screen goes blank.

You’re gone without knowing that I cared to look for you.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

This speaks volumes to me. Lost connections. Is it worth another head butting battle to let someone know that despite our differences we appreciate them when reaching out to say so may provoke another argument? A large part of me says yes, because despite the bravado we all (i think) need to know we matter to someone, somewhere. Do I reach out? That’s another story.

Story reminds me of myself surfing the Internet–always wanting to find something new, different, wonderful. And sometimes it happens! Thanks for a great story.
