Waking Up to Life

Waking Up to Life

By Boris Glikman

One day, a woman with a gun in her hand demanded of me that I provide good reasons why life is worth living; otherwise she was going to terminate me.

“Life is hard, really hard sometimes,” I replied to her, “and a lot of times I do not want to go on struggling against the unyielding, overpowering forces. Yet I want to continue living. That is all I can say. I want to live.”

The interrogator gazed at me with an empty look, deciding on her answer.

Just as she was about to make her pronouncement, I woke up to life.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Yes, agreed – life (and the wish that it may continue) is its own justification!
