Wanting

Wanting

By EN Heim

Bleak, damp, and miserable, the day lumbered aimlessly without any direction: never igniting my creative powers but draining all my positive energy.

While contemplating sleep, I stare at the silent sun lingering above the quiet horizon. It appears trapped in the distant haze.

Pondering what the day offered me, my head becomes filled with blank pages, but they are replaced with delicious schnapps. Many things require attention, but need and desire demand different solutions.

I return my gaze to the descending sun, hoping fantasies will capture my lethargic mind. Unfortunately, my concentration has crashed; I’m going nowhere. Slothful, I crave hibernation.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Great imagery; I could almost “see” the narrator’s day as it unfolded.

    Now, that’s a bad case of writer’s block 🙂

Love the line “need and desire demand different solutions.” It resonates with one of Einstein’s sayings, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
