Wilting corpses swung from the branches of stately trees guarding the path. The bloody petals of cherry blossoms drifted down upon the paved dirt, their lives extinguished despite it only being spring.
Jacob gazed as life departed from this world and wondered if his own was as fragile. Under fire, he stood as a giant, a shield against those who would harm his comrades and family.
A rushing wind scattered the petals. Now the enemy was trapped forever in his mind—demons birthed from the horrors he saw. It would only be a matter of time before his war was lost.
A gloomy but effective tale showing the horrors of war. Very good story, Tim.
That was powerful on so many levels. I loved the way you used the petals falling and the soldiers falling, each before their time. It was really wonderful!!
