We have never been a political magazine.
In fact, our mission has always been to remove ourselves from the nightmare that is the 24 hours news cycle and focus on publishing storiess 365 days a year.
We do this because art is necessary.
Art moves people.
Art changes people.
Art gives people a reason to live.
But what we are seeing this week in the news is more than just “news,” it’s a wake up call.
We have decided to not publish any stories for the rest of the week.
I encourage everyone to pause, listen, and hear black voices. And if you can afford it, consider donating to a charity that helps fight racism. There are many charities to choose from. Here are a few suggestions:
—Shannon and the entire 101 Words team.
You have our support here in the UK.
I agree. Art is about awakening and change, art challenges us at the limits of our human envelopes. There is no place for racism in our country and in our world.
Our thoughts in France are definitely with you. Originally, solidarity is a French word. So is revolt.
Wonderful show of support, Shannon.
Thank you, Shannon.
Bravo, Shannon! And I feel pretty confident in saying that the members of the writing community are in full agreement with you. This is a time when all people of good will need to stand tall & raise their voices.
Have donated to two already. Are the politicians ‘thoughts and prays’ with them?
I stand with you, with them and honor them in all ways.
We stand with you in New Zealand.
With you all the way.
Thank you. This is one wake up call that cannot be ignored.
