Webworm

June 9, 2017 1 Comment

By Brandon Salkil

They’re suspended in the air and tangled by sweeping strands of silk. A colossal canopy of carelessness. Animals of the forest and passing hikers alike.

Mesmerized, they are, by the shimmering veneer of the webworm’s snare. Some are still conscious as the silk swaddles them tighter.

Others are deceased. Desiccated and deformed.

The webworm widens its wings casting a spacious shadow along the forest floor. It cares not for the value of life, only the value of its silk.

It’s the ancient anomaly, the historical hindrance kept secret by the trees. A creature crafted by Earth’s heinous hands.

You’ve been warned.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

And a good warning it is, Brandon. Make sure all the antivirus shields are up and running!
