What Grayson Wants

What Grayson Wants

By Cangus

The nurse moves to fluff Grayson’s pillows, but I do it instead. She looks at me, then at his chart, sighs, and walks away.

Grayson stirs. I check to make sure we’re alone before laying the title deed on his lap.

His son will soon come. He’s next of kin and I’m not, but I know precisely what Gray wants.

He wakes for a few precious seconds.

I wrap his fingers around the pen, his hand a feather, and say, “Sign, baby.”

He drifts off as he does.

I picture holding a pillow over his face. It’d be what he wants.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

If we ever dine together remind me to switch our plates before I take my first taste.

    Loved it.
