By Tom Shanahan
“I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
White sand was soft on my cheek, and waves warmed my icy feet. I did not recognize this place, and it felt quite different from the sterility of my hospital bed where I had fallen asleep. With one eye, I saw the never more beautiful sky and darker blue water join together.
Just then I heard familiar voices. My son, Bible in hand, my grandson and his wife: “It’s what is best. No pain, no tubes.” They boarded our beloved fishing boat. Stricken and mute, I watched as they bounced away.
Powerful, Tom.
I felt so many emotions while reading this superb piece. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Another WONDERFUL story! Two in a row. This one is really touching. Great job!
