It’s raining and even if my lover tried, he wouldn’t find me at the end of the rainbow because my colors have faded. Best to be beige and blend in. It’s dangerous to be bold. No one appreciates color; worse, they don’t tolerate it.
Times have changed. Differences once celebrated now seem threatening. Orders are clear. Toe the line. I see the signs and act appropriately.
But now I’m at risk of becoming invisible, slogging through puddles of despair with no rainbows in sight. My lover has given up trying to find me. He must figure I’m probably lost. I am.
Wow, that hit me.
Beautifully written. Sad times, but if we’re fortunate, the pendulum will swing back.
