She had woken, twisted in pain. The house slept soundly, the pain didn’t. That night she called her Mother.
The surgeon arrived with students in pressed white coats. During surgery they had done all they could, for now.
She’d had signs, sought answers, had been assured all was well. She knew her experiences were not ‘natural’.
The damage was extensive; he told her she couldn’t have children.
That night she heard cries of babies being born. New life beginning, while part of hers had ended.
How cruel it was, to put the Gynecology and Maternity Wards within earshot of each other.
This is such a moving story Helen. And something I am all too familiar with. Sometimes, I too hear babies cry and children playing, in my imagination. Beautifully written. X
Thank you Becca, for your comment, I truly understand your words ?. I am thankful, for so many things and appreciate so much, even if I am now on a different path, to the one I thought I would take. The sadness of not having children, does cut deep, at times, and I do find it difficult. But I know, no good comes of dwelling, on something that is out of my hands, and can not be changed. I nurture other things, with passion and love.
Becca, that is not suppossed to be a ?, on the first line. I put a big pink heart there, for you. It looks like the comment box on here, doesn’t like emojis. I’ll put xxx, instead. xx
Such a sad story, I could actually feel the pain. Very well written. Well done Helen.
Thank you Firdaus, for your lovely comment. That was me, 18 years ago. They say time heals, which is partly, but not wholly true. I’d never put it into words before. Maybe it is my way of finally releasing, this saddness, I carry xx
Once I had a miscarriage and was put in a room with a new mother. It was one of the worse things that ever happened to me. I started crying and the nurse said, ” Oh grow up.”
Ohh! Tth, I am so sorry to hear, what you went through. That is a situation, you should never have been put in. Letting go of the sadness and anger, I found, the most difficult. But with the love of people, that love you, you will come through, even though a part of you will always grieve your loss. Stay strong xx
Yes, our existence is replete with cruel examples of irony, of opposites cohabitating in the most hurtful way. You’ve expressed yourself well, Helen. From reading the comments, I can see how personal this is for you. I applaud your frankness.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, exiledprospero. This was my first ever 101words submission. It was surprisingly freeing, to finally put this experience, into words. I very much look forward to reading your submissions, on here x
