After getting looked at and touched all over in ways she’s long become numb to, she’ll come home to that sweet smile.
She’ll open up a book about a girl with a red hood, and he’ll ask, “Why is the wolf bad?” She’ll snap the book shut and yell, “Because he’s a man!” before hugging him tight, her heart breaking at those scared eyes.
And his tears will fall at night because he doesn’t want to become a wolf, but she won’t be there because she’s outside getting looked at and touched all over in ways she’s long become numb to.
How sad! Love the way the story goes back to the beginning.
This is a moving story and I enjoyed reading it.
That’s a dark tale, Joy. Well executed.
