Zen Baby

August 31, 2021 14 Comments

By Raymond Sloan

Buddy of mine tells me his life has never been more fulfilling since he found Zen. Or as he calls it, “Zen, baby.” Things have been tough lately. I can’t please my boss, much less my girlfriend. And with all the pressure from IVF, I’m lucky to raise my mojo in the bedroom. Buddy swears I try Zen and I’ll regain my vitality.

So, there I am, a day away from giving it a go when Karen bursts from our bathroom, happy tears streaming down her face.

Long story short, nine months later we have a little boy. Named him Zen.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I must be reading it wrong – this is SAD. The way the child used to play. The father pleading to shut off the fan, counting the days. He needs a reprieve from the heartbreak of rememberance.

No, this is the wrong story. I’m changing the story I go to comment on. Again — Sorry! Not sure what’s happening, This is NOT on purpose.

So, I figured it out. I was commenting on ANNIVERSARY, the story right above this one which tells of a lost child and a father’s remembrance. Again, apologies. If you can delete this string of nonsense – that’d be super. 🙂
